Goat Cheese Spread
Sometimes the most amazing things can be super simple! This easy Blueberry Balsamic Goat Cheese Appetizer comes together in less than 15 minutes and is an impressive dip perfect for serving at your holiday party.
If you are looking for a last minute recipe for your party, this is a must try! A reduction of blueberries, honey, rosemary and balsamic vinegar is poured over a whipped goat cheese and cream cheese mixture for the perfect blend of sweet and savory.
Goat Cheese Appetizer
From Airfryer Honey Goat Cheese Balls and Pomegranate Goat Cheese Crostini to this Blueberry Balsamic Goat Cheese Appetizer, goat cheese is always a winning bet in my book.
I have found that most people tend to have a love or hate attitude about goat cheese. I also discovered that many people who hate it have made their minds up about it before ever trying it.
At a party a few years ago, I actually served goat cheese to some ladies once and they loved it. When they asked what it was, one of the ladies threw up her arms and said she HATED goat cheese and refused to eat any more…despite having previously said she loved it! You can’t win them all.
Blueberry Reduction
It really doesn’t get much easier than this recipe. Simply toss the frozen or fresh blueberries in a small saucepan and add the rosemary, honey and balsamic vinegar.
Let it cook on medium for 10 minutes while stirring occasionally. If your blueberries aren’t particularly sweet or you just prefer a sweet taste, you can add an additional teaspoon of honey to sweeten it up.
How to Make Blueberry Goat Cheese
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat the goat cheese and cream cheese together. I did this using whipped cream cheese and a fork. You could also use a hand mixer if your cream cheese is stiffer.
If you are concerned your guests aren’t big goat cheese fans, you could use more cream cheese and less goat cheese. You could actually use just plain whipped cream cheese if you really don’t want to risk serving goat cheese at all.
Spread the goat cheese mixture over a small plate and top with the blueberry mixture that has been allowed to cool for a bit. Serve the dip with some crusty French bread or crackers.
Alternatively, if you want to make things a bit more presentable, you could take the time to spread the goat cheese mixture over each toasted slice of French bread and top with a dollop of blueberry mixture. This would make for a beautiful crostini that is perfect for a passing appetizer.
Can I make blueberry goat cheese ahead of time?
I often get asked whether or not you can prepare this blueberry goat cheese in advance of a party. The answer is YES!
While the combination of chilled whipped goat cheese topped with a warm blueberry reduction is absolutely amazing, you can certainly serve it entirely cold.
Alternatively, you can make the goat cheese and blueberry mixture ahead of time and store them separately. Right before you put out your appetizers for your party, spread the goat cheese on a small plate and quickly warm the blueberries in the microwave for a minute before pouring them over the goat cheese.

Any alterations if doubling this recipe?
Danielle Green says
nope!
Barbara says
Love goat cheese but hate cream cheese. Wondering what else could use instead? All goat cheese? Or maybe mix feta with goat cheese? Or greek yogurt maybe?
Thanks! Sounds good so want to alter so can make it Soon!
Danielle Green says
Just use all goat cheese. The cream cheese is to lighten the flavor of the goat cheese for those who aren’t huge lovers of goat cheese. A little dollop of plain greek yogurt with the goat cheese isn’t a bad idea either to lighten the texture.

This looks amazing. I had something similar when I visited Boston. Question, would you alter the recipe or ingredients if you used blackberries? Thank you
Danielle Green says
Nope, blackberries would make a great swap for blueberries!
Courtney says
Can you serve this cold?
Danielle Green says
Yes, absolutely!
Susan says
Thank you! Just made it. I used 1/2 blueberry 1/2 blackberries. Added a extra teaspoon of honey! Taking it to a party tomorrow night!
Danielle Green says
Love the mix of berries!

This is my new favorite recipe! I’ve got rosemary growing in my yard, and I’ve got a huge bag of frozen blueberries that I picked last summer that were just aching to be used. This is so easy and such a delicious combo of flavors – the goat cheese adds a little tang and there’s the richness of the balsamic – oh my. Such a treat. I’ve made it 4 times now. Yummmm! And it’s pretty too!
Danielle Green says
Oh wow, I love that you have garden fresh ingredients to make this spectacular. Thanks for such a great note!
Catherine says
I’ve made this a couple of times now. I use a honey goat cheese with the cream cheese. Today I piped the mixture in a circle onto rice crackers and put a dab of the blueberries on. Easier for a stand around party where there is no room to set a plate to scoop and spread – will also satisfy the gluten free crowd that will be there!
Judy Murray says
I love goat cheese so much that I think I’ll leave out the cream cheese. What do you think?
Danielle Green says
Yes! You can absolutely leave out the cream cheese if you are a lover of goat cheese. I would go that route myself, but for serving guests I try to ease them into it. 🙂
Robin Ochoa says
What kind of Goat cheese?
Danielle Green says
A log of plain soft chevre goat cheese.
Monica L Jackson says
When you say crusty italian bread do you mean hard?
Danielle Green says
Yes, but any will do.
Amy says
did you toast the bread or just serve as is
Danielle Green says
I always brush my slices of french bread with olive oil and toast them for 5-8 minutes for the best texture. Untoasted fresh bread works well too as long as it isn’t stale.
Joan says
I would like to make this for a Christmas appetizer and use cranberries.
Would that work or not?
Any suggestions to make it festive for the day?
Danielle Green says
Yes, cranberries would be delicious! You will probably just have to add more sugar seeing they are far more tart than blueberries. A sprig of rosemary served on the side would be beautiful or making a rosemary wreath surrounding the small plate would be extra special!
Janis says
This would be a great appetizer at Christmas with cranberries
Danielle Green says
Ohhhh, loving that idea!
Carole says
Can’t wait to try this! I can’t have honey – do you think replacing honey with real maple syrup would alter the taste too much?
Danielle Green says
I think it’d be great!
Margaret Barbera says
Does the blueberry sauce thinken as it cools? I used frozen blueberries that I picked in June and it is really runny. Hoping it will get thick as it cools. Tastes yummy though.
Danielle Green says
It will thicken a little as it cools. Did your blueberries have frost on them? If so that probably added some extra liquid. It can be rectified by just cooking the mixture longer to reduce it down some more.
Jeannie says
Was curious if the blueberry mixture could be frozen ahead of time? I have fresh blueberries I need to use now but upcoming event isn’t for a week.
Danielle Green says
Yes, the blueberry mixture should freeze just fine!
Tob87 says
Omg. Best appetizer ever and sooo easy to make! Made it for a work party the night before and let’s just say it almost didn’t make it to work… absolutely delicious!
Danielle Green says
So happy you loved the recipe!

I made this for a blueberry cook-off at work. I didn’t place because it was savory and if you want to win a blueberry competition you need to go sweet, but I saw it was the dish people went back for seconds of and I got a lot of praise. I put the cream cheese and blueberry sauce in separate containers which made it easy to plate at the event. I used a 2 to 1 cream cheese to goat cheese ratio and warmed it in the microwave to make it easier to spread in the dish. I made the blueberry sauce in the microwave and served it cold so that it wasn’t as runny.
Danielle Green says
Bummer you didn’t win, but makes total sense seeing it isn’t a decadent dessert. Glad so many people enjoyed it though!
