Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies in a Pint Jar
Mason jars are great for so many things like salad recipes to bring to lunch at work or cute and unique storage solutions. They are also perfect for gifting during the holidays or special events! They aren’t just good for your grandma’s canning anymore. 😉 I was searching for a favor idea for my sister-in-law’s baby shower and I came across these wonderful Cranberry Bliss Cookies in a jar over at Launder, Fold, Repeat and knew I needed to give them a try.
I started to do the math on how much it would cost to make enough for the anticipated 30 people coming and it started to get a little steep. I really liked the idea though and didn’t want to have to scrap it. Then I realized I could do a pint size jar instead of quart, and it would cost almost half as much. Since my mom already had a ton of pint size canning jars I only had to buy one pack of 12. After shopping around for sales on white chocolate chips and finding dried cranberries in 48oz bags for under $7 at Sams Club, I was good to go. These were the two most expensive items and I was able to significantly cut down on costs by planning ahead.
It wouldn’t be as simple as cutting the quart recipe in half. Trust me, I tried that (lazy) way, but the cookies came out too sweet and they spread too thin. After playing around with many different combinations of flour and sugar I finally came up with what I think is a great pint cookie jar recipe. They have the perfect amount of chewiness with a thicker cake-like texture and great balance of sweetness.
Best of all, this smaller pint sized jar makes for a smaller batch of cookies for when you are craving something sweet but don’t want to make a huge batch of baked goods. Just add some butter, egg and vanilla and you have got delicious cookies hot out of the oven in no time!
If you are giving these as a gift, be sure to include a tag with them, so the recipient knows how to prepare them! You can download these free Cranberry White Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Pint Jar Labels I have created to go along with the cookie jars. These labels can but cut out and attached with a ribbon, or they are designed to print with these Avery round 2″ labels.
Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies in a Pint Jar
Ingredients
- Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies in a Jar - Pint Mix
- 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
- ¼. Tsp. Cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. Salt
- ¼ tsp. Baking powder
- 1/8 tsp. Baking soda
- 1/3 c. + 1 Tbsp. All purpose flour
- ½ c. Quick oats
- ½ c. Dried cranberries
- ½ c. White chocolate chips
- -
- ¼ c. softened butter
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp. vanilla
Instructions
- In a pint jar, pack the brown sugar into the base. (I used a muddler from my bar set.) On top of the sugar add the cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour and gently shake the jar back and forth to even out the layer of flour. Do the same with the oats and then dried cranberries. At this point you will need to squish the cranberries down to make room for the white chocolate chips. If your chips don’t reach the top of the jar lid, add a few extra to fill the jar. You don’t want any empty space or the layers in the jar will get mixed up and not look very pretty.
- Include a tag with the jar with the instructions on how to prepare the cookies.
- Add ¼ c. softened butter, 1 egg & ½ tsp. vanilla.
- Pour mix into a medium bowl and beat in the butter, egg and vanilla. Drop by Tablespoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375. Cool and enjoy!
Cookies perfection! I tried them today adding some pistachio and they where unbelievable! Plus it was super fun to make with my 2 years old son helping!!! Tomorrow I’m giving a jar as a present and I’m sure it’s going to be appreciated! Thanks and kisses from Italy
I’m so glad you and your son could enjoy them together!
Hi, what does ‘c.’ Stand for? Thanks! Great I site!
Cup 🙂
Do you use metric cup measurements? Ie. 1C = 250ml? I’m in Australia and not sure if we use the same measuring system for quantities??
No, I am using a US cup which is a little less.
Hi Danielle
Can you tell me how you created these labels?
We scaled our mixture down to a pint-sized jar so we will also need to scale down the additional ingredients.
I used Photoshop to create the labels and them imported them into a Word document.
Thanks Danielle! Would you mind emailing me the Word document so that I can adjust the measurements for the half-pint jar we are doing? I have been trying to create this label on my own but I cant get it into the perfect little circle like you created?
I’d be forever grateful if you will!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
The Word document only has flattened images, no text to edit. Therefore, you wouldn’t be able to adjust any ingredients with the Word doc unfortunately. Sorry I can’t be more help!
Hello! I saw that you mentioned something about not being able to cut the original recipe in half to make the pint-sized jar recipe, and that you had to tweak the recipe to get it to fit into a pint size jar versus a quart. But if I wanted to make the quart sized batch of cookies, do you know how much of each ingredient I would need in that case? Thank you so much for your help. I hope that made sense…? LOL
You can find the original quart recipe here, http://launderfoldrepeat.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-cookies-in-jar.html
I love getting gifts like this! Maybe I should be awesome and make some for the holidays!!
What a great gift idea! I love that it makes a small batch (because I cannot control myself around cookies and will eat them ALL!)
I love small batch cookies so I don’t feel quite as bad when I eat them all!! I love cookie jars like this, the layers are so pretty!
Cranberries and white chocolate, what a perfect combination!
Would you happen to have a shopping list for bulk amounts? You said you made 30 jars. I plan to do 50 for a fun group project, but have no idea how much flour, cranberries etc to buy.
Thanks!
Bonnie
For 50 pint jars, you will need roughly the following amount of ingredients.
17 c. packed brown sugar
¼. c. Cinnamon
⅛ c. Salt
¼ c. Baking powder
⅛ c. Baking soda
20 c. All purpose flour
25 c. Quick oats
25 c. Dried cranberries
25 c. White chocolate chips
Thank you so much!
I have been trying to print the recipe for the cranberry white chocolate cookies in the pint jar and won’t let me do you have any idea how I can do it. I do the cookie jars and I like the idea of the pint jars. Thank you for any help you can give me.???
Hi Phyllis, sorry you are having problems with it. I just tried it and it worked fine for me, so my guess is that you have a pop-up blocker on of some sort. Either way, I went ahead and emailed you the label document directly. Hope you enjoy!
OMG….these were the best!!! I shared a bit but by the time everyone realized I made a batch, they were gone…making them again today!!
Thank you Danielle!
PS…I would like to make a bigger batch. May I just double the batch and will they taste the same?
Advise please….
So happy to hear you enjoyed them! Yes you should be able to double it will turn out the same.
I might be missing the answer in the comments, but how many cookies does one batch make? I am thinking of doing this for a cookie exchange. Much easier than baking 12 dozen cookies – if this recipe makes at least 1 dozen – lol!
Hey Wanda, this jar makes exactly one dozen cookies!
Perfect – thank you! I didn’t realize you had responded so quickly. No notifications or I definitely would have responded sooner ☺️
OMG – these were so good! Thank you!
Happy to hear you enjoyed them!
Do you have the receipt for a quart jar
This is the original recipe for the quart jars that I adapted these from, http://launderfoldrepeat.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-cookies-in-jar.html
Hi Danielle! Super excited to try your recipe! How long you think the mixte can stay in the jar before doing the recipe?
For optimal freshness I would use them within a month.
I received a pint jar gift this Christmas and just got around to finally baking them. Oh my they are good! They are so good that I needed the recipe and so the search began. I will make these again and give a few out for gifts as well. They are just yummy! Thank you!
Ahhh I love that you recieved them as a gift and enjoyed them so much!
These sound delicious! Not sure if I missed it in the other comments, but how many cookies will this recipe yield?
It makes about 1 dozen small cookies
I would love to make a quart mason jar might you know how much of everything I would need thanks!
You can simply double the recipe
Hi Danielle, can you use non-quick oats just as well? Thanks!
They will change the texture a little so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Lovey recipe I made as presents for family and friends and now doing as yearly gift diff cookies thanks so much
Few of my friends are vegetarion. Would u suggest a substitute for egg? Thanku
I haven’t tested this recipe with an egg substitute, but if they are vegan they probably know what egg substitute they prefer for baked goods.
