Ingredients

  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cubed
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 1/4 cup diced chives
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F.
  • Add the butter to a 10 inch cast iron skillet or deep 9x9 pan. Place in the oven for 5 minutes while the oven is preheating, until the butter is melted.
  • Meanwhile, mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix in the ham, cheese and chives. Mix in buttermilk just until combined. Do not overwork.
  • Spread the dough over the butter and using a pastry cutter or knife, slice the biscuits into 8-10 pieces.
  • Bake the biscuits at 450° for 20-30 minutes until tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the biscuits to rest for a 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
